Xbox 360 users have been asking for a way to play MKV files since the console’s release. Microsoft has been tight-lipped on the subject, but today they finally gave an answer in a blog post. According to Microsoft, Xbox 360 can play MKV files “in principle.” However, they note that this is still a work in progress and that more features will need to be added before it can be considered a full-fledged MKV player. Microsoft is also working on a new video player called Xbox One X that will support MKV files. This player will be able to upscale and downscale videos, as well as add subtitle support.
