Activision is a company that I have never heard of before. I am not sure if they are a good company or not, but I would like to delete my account.
Ever since I saw my first angry video game nerd rant against the Epic Games Store and its exclusivity deal for Metro Exodus I’ve been wanting to try it out. I didn’t really have much of a reason though since standard Steam works fine for my needs. But recently, Epic has announced that they have changed from their usual store exclusive business practice into simply being a launcher and storefront for other titles…that happens to use the basic free-to-play model as well if you don’t mind doing in game grinding every so often.
And more importantly, it means no region locking on any titles! So far I’ve used it to download both Sonic Mania Plus and Metro Exodus without any hassle, and while I haven’t really played the Sonic release yet (I’m too busy with MvC: Infinite), Metro is shaping up to be quite an excellent FPS title even if it does look like there are some performance issues from time to time.
UPDATE: Civ VI has been added as a title available for the Epic Store! The functionality is still developing, but it’s good enough for now that I can install and play the game with no problems. A small extra fee was required to access the Linux version of the game however (not sure why since Steam has had Linux builds for ages), but otherwise things worked great in my brief test of the title! UPDATE 2: Metro Exodus also supports Vulkan graphics API natively now in addition to DX11 and OpenGL 4 renderers, though with some HUD items being black boxes on occasion. What’s more important is that performance seems to be improved over the initial release!
