OSU students have the option to change their name on their OSU ID card. The process is simple and can be completed in just a few minutes. To begin, head to the Student Services Building on campus and find the office that handles student IDs. You will need your OSU ID number, current name, and desired new name. Once you have all of this information, head to the front desk and ask for a change of name form. The form will ask you to provide your current name and desired new name. You will also need to provide your ID number and birthdate. Once you have filled out the form, give it back to the staff member at the front desk and they will stamp it with your new name. You are now ready to use your new name anywhere on campus! ..

The OSU office location in Enarson Hall (1059 Carmack Road, Columbus, OH 43201) offers a free name change service available to current OSU students. You may pick up an application there and fill it out in person with one of our staff members.

If you’re unable to visit us at 1059 Carmack Road, you can submit your form online instead by following this link: http://osumental.osu.edu/registrar/applink/index.html

You will have to wait for OSU to process your request before you can use the OSU name, though, so please allow 5 business days unless there is an emergency. OSU will let you know when it has been completed successfully by sending mail back to the email address on file with OSU Central (which should be your OSU eID).

Afterwards, here are some additional steps that we recommend doing to ensure OSU! goes along smoothly:

  1. Set up a new OSU email . This is important because many services like BuckeyeMail rely on OSUMail for their mailing system, so any emails sent using OSUMail will automatically go to OSU Central. OSUMail is required by OSU for things like registering for classes, OSU IDs, etc., so we have to set up an account there no matter what.

  2. After you’ve setup OSUMail and OSU Central updates your OSU information in OSU Central, check to make sure that BuckeyeMail has updated accordingly by checking OSUMail using the new OSUMail address (i.e. the email at your new name). If it doesn’t do this automatically (which depends on whether or not you use webmail), you’ll have to either send a test email from yourself or manually update it through BuckeyeMail’s website .

  3. Set up any other accounts that don’t require OSUMail. Some OSU departments and organizations (like the OSU Computer Club) use OSU Central directly to register their members. If you’re using an account that isn’t OSUMail, then it’s important to make sure that OSU Central updates accordingly when you change your name!

  4. If you have any problems getting these tasks done, feel free to contact us at [email protected] or at 614-292-7676 .
