If you’re an Evernote user, it’s likely that you have at least one account. Whether you use the free service or pay for a premium account, the app has a feature called " notebooks." A notebook is a collection of your thoughts and ideas that can be accessed anywhere, anytime. You can add new notebooks as you want, and if you lose your device or lose your data, you can easily restore your old notebooks by following these steps:

  1. Open Evernote on your device. If you’re using an iPhone or iPad, this will be done through the App Store or the Google Play Store. If you’re using a Windows computer, open Evernote on your desktop and follow these steps:
  2. Click on the three lines in the top left corner of the main screen and select “New Notebook.” This will open a new window with all of your current notebooks listed in it.
  3. Type in a name for your new notebook and click on “Create.” The name will be displayed next to each of your existing notebooks in the list.
  4. Click on “Edit” next to each of your notebooks to change its contents or to create new notes within it (if desired).
  5. Click on “Delete” next to any of your notebooks to remove them from Evernote altogether (or if they’ve been added as part of an existing notebook).
  6. Close Evernote by clicking on its icon in the top left corner of the main screen and then clicking on “Exit.”

Note: This does not apply to local copies of notes that you’ve made on the Evernote app or website, which are subject to the limitations described in our Terms of Service under “What happens when I delete my account?” .

Evernote’s GDPR compliance does not apply to anonymized data .  For example, if you opt in to our beta program , we may collect data about usage and performance for the purposes of product improvement without connecting it to a particular user. We’ll also keep logs of support requests and responses as needed for troubleshooting purposes.   Any log data is treated like other anonymous data, and is not subject to the GDPR.

If you have an Evernote Business account , make sure to check your admin settings for any privacy controls available on your account .  It may be possible to adjust these controls to match your individual preferences. If you need help with this, contact support .

In the case that you didn’t know, by using Evernote and agreeing to their privacy policy you were opting in to their GDPR policy.  I don’t see how this would work without some sort of consent from a user or subject.  So I did not opt out, but I also took an action to close my account.
