You can’t delete a GIF directly from Messenger unless you are saving the GIF somewhere else. However, there is another way around this as mentioned in the steps below:
- Open up your Instagram app and tap on the camera icon at the bottom right corner of your screen. Then upload any picture or record a new video as explained in our article How do you post pictures on Instagram? 2) Once you have a picture or video uploaded, Press the Home button to exit Instagram 3) Go back to Messenger and tap on your friend’s name at the top of the chat screen. 4) In their profile, swipe left on any messages containing a GIF until you see an option that says Remove from Chats 5) Tap on it and follow the prompt 6) Now go back to your Camera Roll by pressing the Albums icon at the bottom of your screen 7) Find the image you just edited in Instagram 8) You should see an option that says Messenger underneath your picture 9) Press this option and upload it to Messenger 10) Once uploaded, press the Home button again to exit Instagram and go back to Messenger 11) You should see your GIFs in the chat as well as other images you’ve previously shared with your friend
Phew! That was a long process but necessary to delete a GIF from an iPhone conversation on Messenger. In this way, you’re not deleting the actual GIF file from your phone but rather just remove it from the chat in which it appears. So if you ever want or need that same GIF back (which you won’t), then all you have to do is upload it.
