If you’re using Android devices, there’s a good chance that you have OneDrive installed. It’s a cloud-based storage service that lets you store and access your files remotely. If you don’t have OneDrive, there are a few ways to remove it from your phone.
With that out of the way, let’s dive into removing OneDrive from a Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy Note 5 running Android 6.0 Marshmallow:
On first launch, making sure you’ve got your phone unlocked and at the Home screen, locate the app icon for OneDrive within Applications. If you have any “S Finder” apps enabled—which can be found in your Application Manager—OneDrive will be located there. You can choose to disable “S Finder” to prevent future errors when attempting to uninstall OneDrive. You may also have an additional entry for Microsoft Office Mobile if you’ve installed that app. Make sure you’re accessing the correct icon, and not one of the others shown here:
Once you’ve figured out which icon identifies OneDrive on your phone, long-press said icon and select Uninstall from the pop-up menu. If a confirmation message appears, press OK or Yes as appropriate for your device’s user interface:
When completed, this will remove all traces of OneDrive from your Galaxy S6 or Note 5 phone. If there are other applications using OneDrive, you may receive a message saying that the app can’t be removed. If this is the case, you’ll have to go into the Application Manager and follow steps similar to those we’ve shown here for each such application until it’s all gone!
You should now be free of OneDrive on your phone, so long as there are no other apps using its service. The first time your Galaxy S6 or Note 5 restarts after removal, however, you will encounter an error stating that there was a problem with “Uninstallation of OneDrive.” You can safely ignore this—it occurs due to old data still being stored in memory. Simply tap OK through the error dialog:
Once you’ve gone through the restart process, your phone will no longer have OneDrive installed.
If you’d like to reinstall it, be sure to visit the Galaxy Apps store on your phone or revisit this article later when we publish new information about installing OneDrive on Sammy phones! Otherwise, you can move forward to uninstalling all other Microsoft apps from your device if desired: http://bit.ly/samsungremovemicrosoftapps
The uninstallation of OneDrive is incomplete and requires a factory reset (which deletes all user data). If that’s not a concern for you, please follow these steps:For more info about how to remove OEM Samsung applications – see here.
You can uninstall OneDrive from the Google Play Store app, however we strongly recommend you stay logged into OneDrive to ensure you never lose your phone again. If you have uninstalled the app and need assistance logging back in, please contact us at [email protected]
How do I remove the OneDrive icon from my home screen?
You can remove the OneDrive Android home screen shortcut by long-pressing on it and dragging it to a new location or by pressing “Uninstall”. This function must be performed directly on your device’s home screen – not through the Google Play Store app. The result of uninstalling this way is that you will no longer receive notifications about files stored in OneDrive, but the app itself will still be stored on your device.
If you want to completely remove OneDrive from your device, you must uninstall the OneDrive app through the Google Play Store app. Again, we strongly recommend you stay logged into OneDrive to ensure you never lose your phone again. If you have uninstalled the app and need assistance logging back in, please contact us at [email protected]
Why am I still seeing an “Office Mobile” icon after removing it?
If you are still seeing a “Microsoft Office Mobile” icon or other Microsoft services on your home screen after removing them through Android settings under Application Manager -> All Applications -> Microsoft Corporation -> (OneDrive/Office Mobile), please go into your home screen, long-press the icon and drag it up to the “Remove” or “Uninstall” option. If they are still visible after this procedure, you may need to perform a factory data reset on your device.
If you want to completely remove OneDrive from your device, you must uninstall the OneDrive app through Android settings under Application Manager -> All Applications -> Microsoft Corporation -> (OneDrive/Office Mobile). Again, we strongly recommend you stay logged into OneDrive to ensure you never lose your phone again.
