Snapchat is a messaging app that allows users to send photos and videos that disappear after a set amount of time. For some, Snapchat was a way to keep in touch with friends who live far away or who are busy with their own lives. But for others, Snapchat became an addiction. “It was like my best friend was always there with me,” said sophomore Sydney Kline. “But then when I stopped using it, I realized how much time I had wasted on it.” Kline is not the only one who has struggled with Snapchat addiction. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, as of 2016, about 20 percent of adolescents and 10 percent of adults reported using Snapchat regularly. For some people, using Snapchat can be a way to feel connected to friends and family who are far away or busy with their own lives. But for others, it can become an addiction that takes up too much time and causes them to miss out on other activities in their life. ..
