Sony Interactive Entertainment America (SIE) has been accused of copying Microsoft’s Xbox One console design in its PlayStation 4 console. The accusation comes from a patent application filed by Japanese company Kojima Productions in March of this year. The patent application, which was first reported by Forbes, claims that Sony is using the same “universal remote” design as Microsoft’s Xbox One. The patent application also claims that the PlayStation 4’s controller and display are based on designs used on the Xbox One. However, there are several key differences between the two consoles. For example, the Xbox One has a touchpad and a D-pad while the PlayStation 4 does not. Additionally, the PlayStation 4 features an A/B button while the Xbox One does not. While it is possible that Sony may have copied Microsoft’s design for some aspects of its console, it is more likely that Sony was inspired by Microsoft’s design because it is similar to other devices within Sony’s product line such as smartphones and tablets.
